A gentle touch of wood frames subtly spiced red and dark berry fruit aromas that possess game, humus and hints of underbrush that blend into fresh, naturally sweet and full-bodied flavors blessed with ample dry extract on the mouth coating and driving finish. This is balanced, textured and while the tannins are not as refined, this possesses more overall depth. A qualitative choice.

Crimson red color with very little variation. This just screams drink me now. Lush aromas of fresh strawberry, cherry, roasted pepper and crushed stones are complemented by scorched earth and leather. Medium-bodied, with notes of cardamom, tobacco, sauteed mushroom and Bing cherry on the palate, with lofty acidity that gives into the lovely tannin structure. The mid palate displays wonderful texture, leading into a pleasant finish. This is enjoyable right now, but will be at its best in 5-8 years.

About Winery

Beginning in 1999, a shift in responsibilities took place Chez Taupenot Merme - with the 7th generation taking over - and a host of viticultural changes were introduced. As these improvements were implemented, the wines benefited from greater personalities ("terroir"), deeper colors, more refined perfumes, and textures rendering the wines drinkable throughout their life cycles. Guided by a desire for purity, Romain and his sister Virginie:
    Completed the conversion to organics
    Experiment with "chauffage post fermentaire" (which gently extracts "noble" tannins)
    Work with 100% destemmed fruit (ala Henri Jayer)
    Rack their wines into oak for 12-15 months  of fine lees contact
    Reduced the amount of new oak (maximum of 40% for Grand Crus)
Including their less-than-barrique-sized quantity of Clos des Lambrays, this 30 acre estate is poised to be a leading domaine of the Cote.
