When well-made, as is so capably shown here, Pinot Noir can evince an uncanny balance of richness and grace, and this accomplished bottling exhibits wonderful depth and fruity precision without coming close to being overly ripe. It is supple in feel with perfectly integrated acids underlying its very ample, deftly oaked themes of ripe-cherry fruit, and it is poised and polished all the way through to its very long finish. It is not a powerhouse Pinot, but it is an involving one with good years before it, and it will pair famously with foods ranging from tuna to chicken to duck.

Vibrant garnet core. Expressive, with aromas of fresh strawberry, raspberry, and rose petal accented with touches of spice. Ripe and juicy on the palate, this is loaded with piquant red fruits that keep your mouth watering long after the finish. Nice rich texture, yet still fresh and bright, with magnificent tension on the palate. Drinking wonderfuly now, this will only improve over the next few years.

I cannot remember a finer Farrell Pinot Noir than this one, nor a better 2008 California Pinot, period. It has amazing purity and focus, with beautifully ripened fruit flavors (strawberry, tart cherry, pomegranate, cranberry), an inviting, truffle and spice aroma, and uncommon vibrancy. This is an ideal example of a wine that is lighter in color than many New World Pinot Noirs - it's translucent, in fact - yet it delivers crystalline flavors, great complexity, crackling acidity and best of all succulence.-Linda Murphy
