2008 Chateau de Vaudieu Chateauneuf du Pape

Medium dark red with purplish undertones. All black cherry, red fruits, garrigue, and a hint of rhubarb on the nose. This has a solid mineral backbone and at this young age is still taut on the medium-bodied palate, but with some air, it really opens up to express loads of fresh berry personality and a lengthy, delicious finish with a note of licorice at the end. Aged for 18 months in new oak barrels and demi-muds, this should drink well for 10+ years. 80% Grenache, 15% Syrah, and 5% Mouvedre. Château Vaudieu is one of very few wineries in the Southern Rhone to have made wine continuously since the 18th century.
Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, October 2009
The well-made, dark ruby-hued 2008 Chateauneuf du Pape, a blend of mostly Grenache with some Syrah and Mourvere, reveals abundant raspberry and kirsch notes intermixed with notions of incense and licorice. It is a seductive, pure, medium-bodied effort to drink over the next 5-7 years.

($44) Very fresh and racy, especially for the vintage, with mouthwatering mineral and shiso leaf notes pushed by bright minerality, all of which is then backed by a ripe core of crushed red and black cherry and currant fruit. The finish is long and silky. A very impressive turnaround has been made at this estate. Drink now through 2022. 1,000 cases made.
