95 points,

Burghound, January 2011

A discreet but not invisible application of wood sets off a similar nose as the regular cuvée that leads to big-bodied flavors that are also blessed with excellent concentration and outstanding dry extract levels that confer a textured mouth feel to the hugely long and classically austere finish. This is a stunner of a wine that should be capable of delivering greatness in 15 to 20 years.

94 points,

Stephen Tanzer's IWC, March 2011

Deep red. Sexy, high-pitched aromas of black cherry, minerals, violet and blood orange. Tight, juicy and youthfully imploded, showing the sappy, structured side of this vintage in spades. Piquant acidity and the menthol medicinal notes of classic young Clos Vougeot suggest that this will enjoy a slow and graceful evolution in the bottle. Finishes with a pungent peppery suggestion that may be from the whole-cluster fermentation. Francois Labet considers 2009 to be a great long-lived, balanced vintage, but this is just the kind of 2008 the market will be discovering in 2020.

About Winery

The Château de la Tour was built in 1890 by the ancestors of the current owners : the Labet and Déchelette families. These same families trace their roots in wine since the end of the 15th century.

The Château de la Tour is built in the higher section, not far from the cistercian manor which belongs to the Chevalier du Tastevin. The surface of the Château's vineyards is 6 hectares, making it the largest of Clos de Vougeot.

This most famous vineyard of Côte de Nuits, is located right next to the Musigny and Romanée-Conti domains, neighbours the Chambertin.

The winegrowing and commercial activities are directed by François Labet.

The wines of Château de la Tour are Grands Crus of tradition.

They are backed by the most modern techniques :stainless steel vats, pneumatic presses, associated with very low yields (29 hectolitres per hectare for the last five harvests, corresponding to less than 30 cl per vinestock) and the clever use of new wood according to the strength of the wine.
