An all but invisible touch of wood sets off pure and quite cool green fruit laced with abundant notes of wet stone and tidal pool hints that are also picked up by the textured, intense and precise flavors brimming with extract on the precise and energetic finish that is at once elegant yet displays the hallmark Valmur austerity. This is seriously impressive with almost painful intensity.

Iris and musky peony along with white peach and grapefruit inform the seductive nose of Moreau's 2008 Chablis Valmur, which offers a winning combination of richness and textural plushness with refreshment and levity, as well as a strong, chalky undertone that emerges especially in the wine's long finish. High-toned, metaphorically cooling and soothing herbal impressions add to the allure of wafting inner-mouth floral perfume, while hints of huckleberry and juniper add piquant stimulation. This will reward close to, if not more than, a decade's consideration.

Pale, bright yellow. Aromas of yellow peach, mirabelle, hazelnut and gingerbread. Tactile and concentrated, with excellent energy to the bright lemon, spice and toast flavors. There's a suggestion of opulence here but also an element of austerity. Finishes very long, dry and laid-back, with a light saline component and a lingering spice quality. I'd give this wine a good five years in the cellar; it's the highest in acidity of these 2008s at 5.1 grams.

Intense and tightly wound, offering concentrated lemon, apple, spice and chalk aromas and flavors. This keeps building on the palate, changing as it finishes with a flourish of mineral. Very dry and savory. Best from 2013 through 2028. 300 cases made.

About Winery

In 1814, Jean Joseph Moreau, a "tonnelier" from Montbard, founded the wine-merchant and trading firm, J. Moreau et Fils, in Chablis. However, the family sold half the shares in 1974 and the other half in 1985, thereby no longer having any control.  That reversed with the 2002 vintage, the Christian Moreau family regained their full rights, not only to exploit their own vineyards, but also to make and market the wines belonging to their Domaine.

Fabien, a member of the sixth generation of the family to be involved in winemaking, obtained his National Degree in Oenology in Dijon and a Masters in Business Administration at the E.N.I.T.A in Bordeaux. In December 2001, Fabien returned to Chablis and took over as Managing Director and Head Winemaker at the Domaine Christian Moreau Pere et Fils.
