Alex Lallos, JJ Buckley, December 2011

Incredibly pale lemon yellow in color. With aromas of lemon and lime, gooseberry, flint and freshly cut grass, the nose almost reminds me of a Bordeaux Blanc with mostly sauvignon blanc, but with more higher toned fruit. The mid palate shows a roundness that that nose does not reveal, but still offers classic Dagueneau's bracing acidity. Loads of citrus emerges on the palate with a hint of fresh new oak and extremely light vanilla. Beautiful, massive, complex and long with a finish that goes well into the next sip. A rather incredible and unique profile typical of the producer rather than the region.

90 points,

The Dagueneau 2008 Blanc Fume de Pouilly smells of lemon and caraway, which along with nettle, chalk, and salt make for an invigorating, bright, whistle clean and handsomely lean expose of its grape and terroir. This sends shivers up my spine, though it will no doubt be a bit too lean and bracing for some tasters. It should serve well for at least the next 2-3 years. -David Schildknecht

About Winery

Didier Dageneau launched his estate in 1982. Initially comprising just three acres, it had grown to nearly 30 by the time of his death in 2008. By then the iconoclast had built a reputation for high quality wines from Sauvignon Blanc by employing methods such as extensive pruning, barrel fermentation, and maturation in "demi-muid" (600 liter oak barrel). The estate is now managed by his son Benjamin and daughter Charlotte.
