Here the nose is the most complex to this point with notes of damp earth, crushed rock to the airy and cool red pinot fruit that complements equally pure and stony middle weight flavors that display excellent precision as well as a sense of underlying tension on the firm, linear and driving finish. A classic Guettes with its firm minerality. - Comments: Sweet spot Outstanding ♥

The 2008 Guettes was also showing beautifully at the time of my visit. The bouquet is deep, complex and nicely reserved, as it offers up notes of cassis, black cherries, coffee, woodsmoke, gamebirds and a fine base of complex soil tones. On the palate the wine is medium-full, long and tightly-knit, with a fine core of fruit, lovely balance, impressive nascent complexity and fine-grained tannins that perk up the very long, classy finish that closes with notes of lingering minerality. Just a lovely bottle in the making. (Drink between 2016-2040) 90+

The Pavelot 2008 Savigny-les-Beaune Aux Guettes unites saliva-inducing salinity and rich meat stock with bright, juicy berry fruits shadowed by overtones of kirsch and framboise distillates. Yet for all of its vivacity, it feels like satin. Notes of moss, damp bark, iodine, cardamom, and shrimp shell reduction add intrigue. Here is an instance where the alliance of carnal and mineral elements on expects from the best Savigny are met more than halfway by sheer fruit intensity, for a winsome and flattering performance that ought to evolve fascinatingly but remain strong for 12-15 years. --- David Schildknecht

Bright medium red. Vibrant aromas of medicinal black cherry and violet. Dense, sweet and concentrated, with harmonious acidity giving cut and definition to the soil-driven dark fruit and mineral flavors. Classy, broad Savigny, finishing with a saline nuance and nicely supple tannins.
