A bit brighter and tighter than either of its two slightly riper and more obvious mates, Merryvale's mainstream Cabernet is a firm and moderately full-bodied effort that shows a bit of youthful nerve still. Its supple entry gives way to somewhat pushy acids, and, if not wildly tannic, it does get a little tough at the end. It has the fruit to hold it in good stead for a few years, and it can be cellared with full confidence.

Another great success from Merryvale. Somehow they manage to make red wines that are ripe, oaky and opulent, yet maintain balance so that you can drink it over the course of a meal without the flavors palling. Dry and tannicly sophisticated, it shows complex waves of blackberries, cassis, cherries and sweet, smoky cedar.

Perfumed floral, ripe blackberry and wild berry flavors are firm and structured, deep and persistent, more intriguing as they evolve on the palate. Ends with layers of dark berry fruit. Drink now through 2020. 4,876 cases made.
