2008 Vineyard 29 Cru Cabernet Sauvignon
Cabernet Sauvignon: 750ml
$49.99
Cory Gowan, JJ Buckley, June 2011
83% cabernet sauvignon, 6% petit verdot, 4% merlot, 4% cabernet franc, 3% malbec, aged for 18 months in half-new French oak. Dark opaque red/purple to cherry red at the rim. Nicely restrained, the nose is really penetrating without being overwhelming, as it offers layered aromas of cassis, Bing cherry, dry leather, sage and a hint of vanilla. With a velvety mouthfeel, there is good presence of fruit on the palate, with flavors of blackberry and espresso crème. Those expand, coating the mouth with smooth tannins. The alcohol carries through this very long finish with notes of pepper and spice.

The 2008 Cabernet Sauvignon Cru (82% Cabernet Sauvignon and the rest Petit Verdot, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Malbec) is made in a softer, more seductive style than the Vineyard 29 Estate Cabernet Sauvignon. Its deep ruby/purple color is followed by sweet aromas of black cherries, black currants, tobacco leaf, coffee and spice. Round, medium-bodied and delicious, it should drink well for 7-10 years.
