2009 Craggy Range Pinot Noir Te Muna Road Vineyard
Pinot Noir: 750ml
$40.99
about this wine:
From the old, stony soils of the higher terrace on our Te Muna Road
Vineyard, this 33 hectare vineyard is planted with eight clones of Pinot
Noir in more than 40 different parcels.
From this melange of parcels, the grapes are hand picked and fermented
with indigenous yeasts before spending over a year in small French oak
barrels without racking to produce our Te Muna Road Pinot Noir - a dark
and brooding wine with a silky layered texture that provides interest
and complexity.

Pale pink rim with a deeply colored center. Offering an expressive nose of strawberry and earthy dark cherry with hints of pepper and spice, this pinot positively sings with bright, clean fruit on the palate. A Burgundian character of chalky mineral plays against a core of supple fruit flavors, finishing with seamlessly integrated tannins. Still quite young, it is easy to see the potential of this wine with its promise to unfurl and show more complexity after additional time in the bottle. Not the classic Martinborough style, but definitely one of the best Te Muna Road pinots I've had the pleasure to taste.

5 Stars - The 2009 is another winner. Sturdy and rich, with substantial body and deep, ripe cherry/plum flavours, showing excellent concentration and complexity, it's an obvious candidate for cellaring.

The 2009 Te Muna Road Pinot Noir has an adorable ripe redcurrant, raspberry, wild strawberry and orange sorbet bouquet that soars from the glass. The palate has a ripe, caressing entry with rounded redcurrant and orange zest fruit and dares to show a little more delineation on the finish than the Calvert. This exquisite Pinot already exudes poise and tension and could turn out to be one of Craggy Range's finest Pinot Noirs to date. Drink 2012-2020. -Neal Martin

4 1/2 out of 5 Stars, Top in Category: Powerful, brooding, oak aromas mingle with lovely dark, wild berry elements. Fleshy palate with velvety mouthfeel and full of juicy sweet fruit layered with oak.
