A very traditional, yet pretty style, the 2009 Domaine Durieu Châteauneuf-du-Pape is a completely cemented aged blend of 80% Grenache, 10% Syrah, 5% Mourvèdre, and 5% Cinsault. Showing fresh, perfumed, and straight-up Provencal aromas of spice-laced red fruits, green peppercorn, wild herbs, and a touch funky leather and earth, this medium to full-bodied, beautifully balanced Châteauneuf-du-Pape has a seamless, elegant texture, sweet fruit, and a focused, classy finish that's loaded with sweet, fine-grained tannin. A good mix of traditional style aromatically, and polish and texture on the palate, this beauty should drink well for 8-10 years.

The 2009 Chateauneuf du Pape (80% Grenache and the rest Mourvedre, Syrah and Cinsault aged in cement) exhibits damp earth, smoky Provencal herb, pepper, kirsch and black currant notes. Lusty and heady with lots of spice, this is a fragrant wine with an unctuous texture and a luscious, full-bodied mouthfeel. Drink it over the next decade. Now that son Vincent Durieu is in full charge, Domaine Durieu has become one of the up-and-coming superstar estates of Chateauneuf du Pape. Lovers of these wines need to pay more attention as prices have remained reasonable. 2010 is another blockbuster vintage for Vincent Durieu.
