about this wine:

The grapes used for this rosé come from selected parcels where the vines are on average 20 years old. The yields are low, which explains the intense concentration and distinct expression of each varietal in this wine. The presence of Mourvedre gives this wine its strong character, balance and complexity.

All grapes are harvested by hand

3 techniques are used to make the rosé: direct press, short maceration, and saignée (5%)

Wine ages in cuve for 6 to 8 months

92 points,

Stephen Tanzer's IWC, July 2010

Light, orange-tinged pink. An expansive bouquet evokes wild strawberry, redcurrant, blood orange and musky herbs, with a sexy floral quality gaining power with aeration. Dry, dusty and focused on entry, then weightier and lusher in the middle, offering juicy red fruit and citrus flavors and notes of thyme and tarragon. Manages to be both nervy and rich, and finishes with strong cut and lingering minerality. As usual, this is one of the stars of this year's crop of pink wines.

91 points,

Wine Spectator, July 2010

Very rich and complex, featuring flavors of dried cherry, plum, raspberry, with hints of melon. Chocolate and spice linger on the ripe finish, with a hint of meatiness. Drink now through 2013. 4,150 cases made. -KM

About Winery

Owned by the Tempier family since 1834, the Domaine won its first gold medal in 1885 due to the drive and hard work of Lucie's great grandmother, Leonie, who had the first winery built. Located in the heart of the Bandol appellation, Domaine Tempier's 38 hectares are spread over seeral parcels facing the sea on steep, sun-drenched slopes. It is one of the few mid-19th-century estates that has stayed true to its past.
