An elegant, pure and ripe nose of cassis, plum-liqueur and earth is followed by supple, refined and equally pure middle weight flavors that are mineral-inflected and quite firm while finishing with verve and excellent persistence. This stylish effort is really quite classy. - Comments: Outstanding ♥

The 2009 Gravains is cut from the riper side of the Pavelot ledger this year and really comes across as an exotic and exuberant 1990-like wine. The nose is a blend of black raspberries, fruit cake, dark chocolate, grilled meats, minerals and a touch of prune. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied and powerful, with a rock solid core of plush fruit, fine-grained tannins, and very, very good length and grip on the modestly overripe finish. For fans of the 1990 red Burgs, this will be a lovely bottle, but for those who find those wines a bit over the top in style, this is probably not going to be their cup of tea. It is a very, very well-made bottle of wine by any stretch of the imagination. (drink 2016-2040)
