Devon Magee, JJ Buckley, January 2012

75% merlot, 18% cabernet franc, 7% cabernet sauvignon aged for 15 months in 60% new oak. A fresh, rising dough aroma punctuates the nose, and immediately signals the aging capacity of this young wine. The palate displays the sweet fruit typical of the vintage on the Right Bank, and the Cabernet adds a unique balance to one of the more Cab-influenced wines in Pomerol. It is the firm weight behind the lifted fruit, and rounds out this Right Bank standout that is both fun and serious at once. The fresh mid-palate evolves into a creamy-textured, tannic finish, making this an all-around complete expression of this vintage in Pomerol.

A wine with sweet tobacco and blueberries and hints of orange peel follow through to a full body, with silky tannins and a pretty finish. A little austere, but very attractive. Better in 2016.

Blackish. Meaty and subtle. Lots of real vibration here. Much reward! Dry finish but only after masses of sweet fruit. Heston's meat fruit?! 17.5/20

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, February 2012

Their finest effort since 1982, Petit Village has turned out a beautifully generous, succulent, fleshy 2009 with loads of ripe plum, black currant, black cherry, mocha and subtle earthy undertones. Round, flamboyant, dense and rich, with low acidity, outstanding concentration and purity, and a long finish, this outstanding wine should drink well for up to 15 or more years.

Stephen Tanzer's IWC, July 2012

Bright, deep ruby-red. Very ripe aromas of cherry, leather, game, mocha and smoke. Plush, sweet, concentrated and seamless, showing an opulent texture to its flavors of black cherry, dark raspberry, mocha and toffee. Very tactile, dense wine with tongue-coating dusty tannins and very good length. Seriously rich for this property, and sexy already.

Very juicy, smoky, smooth and velvety. It has great acidity as well as sweet fruit. An opulent, open wine, yet with a great final structure; big and sweet. - R.V.

Wine Spectator, March 2012

This darker, toastier style delivers plush cocoa and plum sauce aromas and flavors to lead the way, liberally laced with notes of pain d'épices, fig and blackberry confiture. Fleshy edges build through the finish, with impressive grip. A property steadily on the rise. Best from 2014 through 2027. -JM
