On the palate there's the real freshness of a succulent, sweet grapefruit, add to that some mouthwatering acidity and you have a real racy number. Weils 2009 Kiedricher Turmberg Riesling Spatlese marks a dramatic contrast with its Klosterberg counterpart in that here a strongly saline note offers mouthwatering invigoration and, along with juicy grapefruit, a wonderful foil to the richness of liquid floral perfume and white peach that abound on a dense, satiny palate. Piquant nut oils, fruit pits, vanilla, as well as a hint of truffle add complexity to this wines evocative, irresistibly succulent, unforgettably long finish. I would plan to follow this for at least a quarter century. -DS

Though ample in texture and ripeness, this is tightly wound and backed by a firm spine of acidity. Keeps its peach, apple and grapefruit flavors in check for now, especially on the firm finish. Everything is there, but this needs time. Best from 2013 through 2032. 340 cases made. -BS

About Winery

Founded in 1875, Weingut Robert Weil is considered to be one of the Rheingau's younger wine estates. It is located in the heart of Kiedrich, a village first documented in the year 950. Kiedrich Turmberg and Kiedrich Gräfenberg, the estate's top vineyards, are among the finest sites in the Rheingau.

The estate cultivates 70 hectares (173 acres) of vineyards, of which 98 percent are planted with Riesling. Today, Wilhelm Weil, the great-grandson of the estate's founder, carries on the uncompromising, quality-oriented vineyard and cellar practices that have been the hallmark of the winery for four generations.
