Dark purple core with a ruby rim. Blackberry and plum appear on the nose, supported by secondary notes of wildflowers, salt air, saddle leather and just a hint of espresso. The 2009 features Oreno's signature silky texture and fine, well-integrated tannins, but in its youthful state the flavors are still tight. With vibrant acidity, this has all the makings of another stunning release from Oreno. In another 2-4 years, it will be nothing short of fantastic.

Currants, blueberries and mint on the nose. Full body, with velvety tannins and juicy fruit. Tannic now, but will soften with age. Lots going on here. Very close to the superb 2008. A blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Petit Verdot. Try after 2013.

The 2009 Oreno is stunning. Layers of soft, well-articulated fruit caress the palate in this sweeping, dramatic wine. There is tons of depth, freshness and vitality in the glass, not to mention terrific overall balance. Sweet flowers, spices and licorice wrap around the seamless, captivating finish. Oreno is one of Italy's most improved wines. The 2009, a blend of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Sangiovese, represents another move in the right direction. Anticipated maturity: 2014-2029. 94+ -AG

This seems extracted, with density to its black currant, blackberry and spice flavors. Though rich and ripe, there's a steely backbone and firm, refined tannins for support. Lingers with dark fruit and spice, with a hint of mineral. Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot. Best from 2013 through 2022. 3,500 cases imported. -BS
