about this wine:

Its firm, well-rounded tannins offer a smoothness ever present over the years. Being highly concentrated, it can be left to age  for many years even though it is tempting to drink it young to enjoy the fullness of its fruity aromas and silken finish.

Alex Shaw, JJ Buckley, January 2012

65% cabernet sauvignon, 30% merlot, 5% petit verdot. Notes of mushroom, damp wood and earth dominate the nose, backed by notes of blackberry and espresso aromas. Big but very closed at this stage, the tannins are grainy and tightly wound, lingering on the palate but still not overpowering the fruit. Give this 8-10 years to come into balance, and drink it over the next two decades.

91 points,

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, February 2012

Extremely sexy, soft, supple and opulent, with notes of cedar, herbs, incense and black currant fruit, this is a full-bodied, generously endowed but silky Talbot to drink now and over the next 20+ years. By any standard of measurement, this is irresistible.

91 points,

Stephen Tanzer's IWC, July 2012

Bright ruby-red. Slightly rustic aromas of musky black raspberry, black cherry, dark chocolate, leather and game. Sweet, glossy and pliant, with lovely intensity and lift to the flavors of dark cherry, cherry pit and spices. Hints at the horsey quality typical of this chateau but boasts terrific enveloping fruit and noteworthy sweetness. Finishes with broad, plush tannins and excellent length. One of the top few Talbot vintages of the last 25 years.

93 points,

Wine Enthusiast, February 2012

Initially generous, the wine then becomes much more solid and dense. The structure is all there along with the ripest fruit. It is delicious and darkly tannic at the same time. R.V.

91 points,

Wine Spectator, March 2012

Dark plum and blueberry compote notes lead the way, followed by dark cocoa and tobacco. A fleshy feel runs throughout, with a stony edge adding length and balance on the finish. Best from 2013 through 2021.
