A perfumed yet restrained and cool nose features concentrated aromas of violets, cassis, red currant and dark pinot fruit that give way to rich, full-bodied and powerful medium weight plus flavors that culminate in a tautly muscled, serious, complex and palate staining finish. This impeccably well-balanced and substantial effort is really quite impressive and delivers outstanding length.

The 2009 Corton Rognets bursts from the glass with considerable muscle and sheer power. Iron, smoke and licorice add complexity to the expressive dark fruit. I especially like the sense of drive. The balance of fruit, structure and minerality is superb in this invigorating Burgundy. Sweet floral notes round out the rich, generous finish. This is a very strong showing from Taupenot-Merme. Anticipated maturity: 2019-2029. -Antonio Galloni

A burly, meaty red, packed with dark cherry and berry flavors, but also a hint of smoke and tar. On the palate, this begins with a blast of fruit, before yielding to stiff, drying tannins. Seems out of sorts today, yet there's an underlying sweetness of fruit. Best from 2015 through 2030. -BS
