The barest hints of reduction and sulfur barely detract from the otherwise ripe aromas of pear, resin and yellow peach. The round, succulent and delicious middle weight flavors possess reasonably good depth and length but again, only average complexity. This is perfectly good but not distinguished.

The 2009 Chassagne-Montrachet La Maltroie bursts from the glass with generous, opulent fruit. The Maltroie is a radiant, expressive wine graced with gorgeous depth and richness. Despite its exuberance, at times, the Maltroie gives the impression of being somewhat closed in on itself (if that makes sense), suggesting it needs further time in bottle to reveal the full breadth of its pedigree. Anticipated maturity: 2013+. -Antonio Galloni

Though rich and luscious, this white is also complex, displaying apple, peach, lemon, spice and savory mineral flavors. There's a little oak that needs to be resolved, but this should develop well. Best from 2014 through 2022. -BS
