Chuck Hayward, JJ Buckley, April 2011

Deeply colored and opaque at the core, the rim is magenta. Youthful aromas of fresh garrigue are present, mingling with flavors of dark fruit and cocoa that emerge on the midpalate then pick up concentration and intensity towards the backpalate. The finish is a never ending mélange of sweet fruit and fine tannins, with a final punch of chocolate and hints of fleur de sel. Sumptuous at this point, expect continued drinkability over the next 10-12 years.

Rhone Report, The, September 2011

A fresh, easy going, and delicious wine, the 2009 Domaine de la Solitude (Lançon Père et Fils) Châteauneuf-du-Pape displays a spice and garrigue-laced profile with notions on raspberry, cherry, and licorice coming through with air. Medium-bodied and supple on the palate, with a soft, supple texture and sweet tannin, this is very approachable and seems best suited for mid to near-term drinking. It should continue to shine for 5-8 years.

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, October 2011

The sexiest wine of this quartet is the 2009 Chateauneuf du Pape, which comes from 30-50 year old vines and is aged primarily in tank with a tiny amount of the Syrah component kept in small barrels. The general blend is 55% Grenache, 20% Syrah and the rest Cinsault and Mourvedre. Its dark ruby/purple-tinged color is followed by big, sweet, juicy blueberry, blackberry, kirsch, licorice and smoked Provencal herb scents. Sumptuous, round, generous and already delicious, it is ideal for drinking over the next 10-12 years.

Dark red. Expressive aromas of redcurrant, blood orange, smoky minerals and allspice. Taut and juicy in the mouth, with very good cut to its red fruit, spice and floral flavors. Penetrating acidity extends the long, floral finish, which features fine-grained tannins and emphatic mineral snap

A textbook version of the ripe, modern style, with a core of plum, linzer torte and black currant fruit backed by toasty spice and melted licorice note. A nice tug of roasted earth keep this honest on the finish. Not huge, but very well put together and approachable now. Drink now through 2027.
