about this wine:
Made from a blend of wines from the Smith Haut Lafitte estate, 2009 Les Hauts de Smith rouge was produced and aged with just as much care as the lots that went into the grand vin, using identical winemaking
techniques.
Grape varieties: 55 % Merlot , 35% Cabernet Sauvignon
Winemaking: Double sorting both before and after de-stemming, and (uncrushed) grapes were fermented in vat. Extraction of tannin and color was done by pigeage (punching down the cap) and/or pumping over.
Maceration at 26-28°C for 4-6 weeks. Aging in barrel for 14 months.

Dark opaque ruby from core to rim. Quintessential Graves, with aromas of pulverized rocks, French vanilla, ripe plum, sea air, black cherry, cassis, with a hint of tar. Pure and focused on the palate, with deep black and red fruit flavors intermingling with spice. A bit of grip near the finish where it turns tarry and chocolaty, this is drinking beautifully now but will gain complexity with 2-3 years of bottle age. This has an immediate sense of place and will prove a formidable companion to the historic 2009 Smith Haut Lafitte. Enjoy 2013-2020.

A wine, with lovely plum, blueberry, chocolate and plum aromas and flavors. Full body, and a velvety finish. Soft and delicious now. Better in 2015.

Dark and rich, but pure and polished, with a subtle bittersweet cocoa frame to the dark cherry, cassis and plum notes, inlaid with tar and violet. Stays sleek through the finish. Has some grip but is accessible now. Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. Drink now through 2018. 5,000 cases made.
