Plenty of well-ripened, apple-like Chardonnay fruit is in place to balance the ample oak that is to be found at every point here, and the two work together to make for a deep and wonderfully rich wine. While a fairly big wine, it is also a nicely constructed one with a solid spine of structural acidity warding off any sense of heaviness. It is long and layered and reveals a little more with each sip, and it is destined for better if its plentiful pleasures can be ignored for a few years.

A fancy Chardonnay, whose 50% new French oak gives a delicious layer of buttered toast and vanilla, but is in keeping with the volume of the underlying wine. Made from grapes grown in some of the best vineyards in eastern Carneros, it’s rich in pineapple, lemon, lime and green apples, with a honeyed finish.
