Opaque purple core. This is tight at first, but opens up nicely to show a classic grenache profile, with notes of kirsch, blackberry and garrigue, and underscored by touches of cured meat and baker's chocolate. A medium-bodied effort, this is drinking beautifully now with its soft, round texture and abundance black fruit with a touch of spice. There is just enough structure with soft, fine-grained, persistent tannins, indicating this still has more to give. Drink now through 2016

Chapoutier connection. Very gamey nose. Polished sweet tannins. Great effort has been made in this wine to combat the vintage's hazard of dry tannins. No heat on the end. There is something of the Fisherman's Friend throat pastille about this wine but/and it has great allure. 17/20 points.

Textbook and traditional on the nose, with loads of Provencal herbs, green peppercorns, leather, and licorice, as well as copious amounts of juicy plum and blackberry styled fruits, the 2009 Pierre-Henri Morel Châteauneuf-du-Pape is medium-bodied+ on the palate and possesses plenty of rich fruit, good balance, and notable structure on the finish. While not quite as impressive as the Pignan, this nevertheless is an excellent Châteauneuf-du-Pape that should drink nicely for 8-10 years.

The 2009 Chateauneuf du Pape has oodles of black raspberry and kirsch notes intermixed with roasted Provencal herbs, licorice, and spice box. Medium to full bodied, dense, and impeccably well-made.
