Geoffrey Binder, JJ Buckley, March 2010

88% Semillon, 8% Sauvingon Blanc, 4% Muscadelle. Exotic nose of tropical fruits, coconut, and creme brulee. Lots of spicy botrytis and coconut creme on the palate. Long and broad with great rich texture and lots of tension. Great acidity gives snap to the finish.

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, February 2013

The 2009 de Myrat displays noticeable vanilla-tinged oak that is waiting to be subsumed on the nose of this Sauternes: high-toned and generous, this is more spirituous than its peers. The palate is very candied on the entry. This is a “playful,” citric 2009 Sauternes, one that does not possess the breeding of others, although the finish displays decent balance and a naive charm. It is a Sauternes of purity rather than power. Drink now-2025. -Neal Martin

Here’s a rich wine that is developing slowly and surely. It holds back on the botrytis character, with a bitter orange note that gives a dry edge to the wine’s sweetness. The finish shows acidity and a taut line of citrus.

This is explosively rich, with almond cream, heather and honeysuckle aromas giving way to mouthwatering lime chiffon, papaya and dried persimmon notes. Long and expansive, with intense citrus pâte de fruit on the finish. Still on the youthfully rambunctious side, so cellar. Best from 2014 through 2030. -JM

About Winery

Château de Myrat has a history that begins in the late 1700's, many transfers and a lack of documentation makes it difficult to monitor developments. However, it is reasonably clear that it is the family Dumirat who made the chateau its name in the early 1800's. The name was Château Mirat which was later revised to Château de Mirat. During the 1855 classification the castle was owned by the family Molle, which at that time got Château de Mirat classified in Les seconds Crus. When Château de Myrat got the current spelling is unclear but it must have been after the classification 1855.

Despite the extensive restoration of the vineyard, which was completed 1945, Max de Pontac was not pleased with the results, and 1976 he took the courageous decision to pull all the vines at Château de Myrat. This was a shocking decision that has never before been implemented among the classified castles in Sauternes

Château de Myrat is on a raised plateau in Barsac. The property has a total area of 30 hectares, of which 8 hectares is a park. The soil is typical of Barsac, with significant involvement of lime and clay. Planting is broken down into 88% Semillon, Sauvignon 8% 4% Muscadelle.
