2009 Santa Margherita Pinot Grigio Pinot Gris
Pinot Gris: 750ml
about this wine:
In 1961, Santa Margherita's enologist had the inspired idea of applying traditional white wine vinification techniques to the pink-hued Pinot Grigio grapes of Trentino Alto Adige, immediately separating the skins from the must in the pressing phase and thus preventing them from yielding the (until then) classic rusty color. Thus was created this innovative white wine which, with its characteristics of a fresh, fragrant bouquet and versatile taste, represented a real revolution for the wine sector. Ever since, it has continued to gain popularity and accolades both in Italy and abroad, maintaining its strong position of leadership among D.O.C. Pinot Grigios.
Santa Margherita was founded in 1935 by Count Gaetano Marzotto Jr. who,
at the time, was running the family's Vicenza-based textile group, which
was started up at the beginning of the 19th century by his grandfather,
Luigi. His aim was a very specific one: to succeed in creating an
innovative agricultural hub that would break the traditional mould of
the time and represent a source of modernity and growth.
Santa Margherita has always followed in its Founder's footsteps, but always looking forward, towards the future and towards the market: it is an innovative company, which is always attentive to consumers' requirements. These are principles to which Santa Margherita has faithfully adhered throughout its history.
It has done so, for example, by creating a real "mosaic of wines", that is to say by acquiring - over time - other wine companies that have gradually been added to the original firm at Fossalta and have complemented its range, uniting some of Italy's finest wine production zones in a single Group.
