Mild sulfur notes blend in with otherwise very fresh citrus, white orchard fruit and acacia blossom aromas that precede solidly rich and unusually full-bodied flavors that brim with old vine dry extract, all wrapped in a delicious and persistent if only moderately complex finish. (Outstanding, ♥)

Pale straw hue with hints of green. Gun flint and river stone minerality lead the bouquet, with layers of grapefruit and lemongrass. The minerality and vibrant acids excite on entry, as the citrus and herbal flavors settle in on the midpalate. Throughout, the oak presence maintains balance with its crème brule influence. The oak and minerality hold strong in the finish. A zippy wine that would be ideal with a warm bowl of clam chowder, or seafood pasta.

The 2009 Puligny-Montrachet Hameau de Blagny emerges from a parcel of 60 year-old vines. It possesses gorgeous textural richness and depth in its plush fruit. This is a relatively masculine, powerful wine from Sauzet that emphasizes fruit over minerality. The plush, deep finish invites a second taste. Despite the wine's richness this remains a relatively mid-weight, refined Burgundy. Anticipated maturity: 2012+. --- AG

Pale greenish-straw color. Complex but reticent nose hints at lemon oil and flowers. Dense and fruity, offering a sweeter impression than the foregoing samples. A somewhat larger-scaled wine from a hotter spot, and in a more typical style (Boudot calls it a "summer" style) for the year.
