A wine with juicy fruity and hints of fresh mushrooms. Medium-to-full body, with velvety tannins and a succulent finish. Better in 2015.

This opulent 2009 from the up-and-coming appellation of Cotes de Castillon (a treasure-trove of values east of St.-Emilion) is the home property of the well-known winemaking consultant, Stephane Derenoncourt. Dominated by its Merlot component (70%), it offers up notes of mocha, roasted coffee, sweet kirsch, black currants and hints of wood smoke as well as caramels. Pure and plump with silky tannins, impressive concentration and good balance, this hedonistic 2009 should drink well for a decade.

Bright red-ruby. Slightly high-toned aromas of blueberry, spices, truffle and chocolatey oak. Dense, sweet and creamy, with very ripe cassis and black cherry flavors framed by moderate acidity. Finishes with slightly dusty, chewy tannins and very good length. Very 2009 in style.

Ripe but very well-focused, with a lovely singed vanilla bean note guiding the delicious plum sauce, blackberry and cassis fruit. The long, pure, polished finish shows nicely buried minerality. Drink now through 2020. 2,500 cases made.
