This famous vineyard derives its name from its geographical position on a steep slope where the workers would hurt their feet when digging the soil. Bouchard Père & Fils has  owned  38  ares  of  this  Premier  Cru  since  1775,  the  year when  the House  also bought its very first vineyards, in Les Caillerets.

Medium red. Complex aromas of redcurrant, raspberry, leather, truffle and smoky earth. Rich, chewy and deep, with captivating sweetness to the red fruit and spice flavors. Finishes with a kick of acidity, a saline nuance and noteworthy rising length. With extended time in the recorked bottle, this Volnay gained markedly in dusty spice character. 91+
