Aromas of sweet berries and blueberries with hints of walnuts. Full body, with velvety tannins that are polished and refined. This seems to be slightly holding back its inherent qualities. Give it time. Best ever from here. Better in 2017.

Black. Luscious and obviously very well cared for. Dense, tarry and very tight - but not too sweet nor overripe not too alcoholic, just tightly wound, should come right eventually.

100% merlot. From 40 year old vines. Ultra ripe blackberry is infused with black licorice and black olive tapenade on the nose. With creamy oak and upfront fruit out of the gate, this is rather modern in style, and the palate showcases gobs of dark berry, soy and camphor. Weighty on the tongue, this is marked by clean, fresh acidity and a mineral edge. Medium long finish with tea spice. More oak and tannin throughout compared to the regular bottling partly due to malolactic fermentation in new French barrique. Drink 2017 to 2022.

The 2012 Prima has backed off the new oak in an intelligent manner and now seems like a denser, slightly fuller, medium-bodied wine with more impact and textural pleasure on the palate. The Prima should drink well for 3-4 years.

Heavy wood aging dominates this rich wine at this stage. That should integrate to leave an almost California ripeness from the 100% Merlot. It has a full and rounded structure, cushioned by generous fruits. -R.V.
