Geoffrey Binder, JJ Buckley, February 2013

80% semillon, 20% sauvignon blanc. Aged in 15% new oak. A pale yellow gold color leads into a fresh and lively nose, with lots of white floral notes and bright citrus. This is one of the more refined and elegant wines of the vintage. It has weight and concentration yet the acidity creates an elegance that is unmatched. Lots of lemon curd and lime mix with ripe yellow stone fruit and a long finish. There is just enough botrytis spice here that it creates depth but does not interfere with the lovely fruit. Drink now through 2040+.

Quite pale gold. Dense, rich, twangy nose. Some real density and wonderful life. Tastes as though real selection has gone into this wine, although the sugar level is not that intense. And the overall impression is one of acidity plus only medium body and sweetness. I like the light marmalade hints though. RS 132 g/l, TA 4 g/l. 17 out of 20

The Chateau de Fargues has a very pure nose of clear honey, lemon curd and passion fruit all with fine delineation and focus. The palate is medium-bodied with a citrus-driven entry with touches of lime, passion fruit and grapefruit. It has great focus and "drive," a crescendo of flavours that embrace quince, Seville orange, tangerine and spice. There is wonderful persistency towards the powerful finish. This is another great de Fargues to follow the monumental 2009. -Neal Martin

Bright, pale yellow-gold. Aromas of lemon, yellow peach, passion fruit and flowers are by rosewater and a lovely hint of spicy botrytis. Fresh and sweet in the mouth, with excellent balance to its smooth, rich tropical fruit, citrus and honeyed flavors. This seductive and very sweet wine struck me as a rather atypical Fargues in its restrained delivery of aromas and flavors; while it's not as flamboyant or explosively decadent as de Fargues usually is, it boasts sneaky concentration. High but well-integrated acidity keeps it very light on its feet.

Very aromatic, sweet wine, the palate suffused with acidity as well as dried apricots, fresh in character, the spicy element adding to the structure of the wine.

Unctuous and nicely formed already, with juicy apricot, green fig and honey notes. The finish is lush, but with nice cut, showing hints of toasted coconut and almond. Sneakily long. -J.M.
