Geoffrey Binder, JJ Buckley, April 2011

Typically a blend of 90% semillon and 10% sauvignon blanc, aged in 30% new oak. Planted to gravel and clay-limestone soils. Lemon and a touch of toasted coconut frame the nose with an abundance of underlying botrytis spice. Fat and rich, the palate is dominated by spicy botrytis, followed by clove and cardamom, along with moderate sweetness tucked beneath brilliant acids and creamy citrus. The acids carry the fruit through a moderate finish in which the sweetness gently fades.

Lovely nose with white peach, honeysuckle and orange blossom. Some dried orange peel and vanilla. This Sauternes is intense and medium sweet on the palate with a tasty and quite long finish with lots of spice. Drink or hold.

Jancis Robinson, April 2011

Greenish pale gold. Not much nose but obviously quite a bit of body. Dense and very rich and sweet. Quite charming. With real texture. Pastry cream. Long and just a little astringent on the finish. Medium persistence. RS 135 g/l, TA 4.8 g/l.

The Chateau d'Arche has an attractive nose with subtle notes of lemon curd, almond and pear, struck through with impressive delineation and lift. The palate is medium-bodied with good weight and tension, fine focus and minerality, leading to a fresh vibrant, quite floral finish with purity and a decent (although not great) level of botrytis. This is an accomplished Sauternes from an estate that has raised its game in recent vintages. -Neal Martin

Rich more than dry, the palate a very spicy character, the texture full, unctuous, but more than just sweet.

About Winery

The Château d'Arche is located at the very heart of a 40 hectare vineyard on the small hills surrounding Sauternes. Its unique location allows it to benefit from a particularly favourable climate. The morning mists dispersed by the sun enable the development of Botrytis Cinerea, a bacterium essential for the growth of outstanding Sauternes wines.

The vineyard is planted on a variety of soils (70% gravels, 20% clay and 10 % limestone) which allow for the growth of wines with specific gustative qualities: strength from the gravels, aromas from the clays and delicacy from the silts. The North-South axis of the vineyard ensures the grapes a maximum amount of sunshine throughout the day.
