Geoffrey Binder, JJ Buckley, February 2013

87% semillon, 13% sauvignon blanc. Aged in 33% new oak.Shows a medium yellow-gold color.Lemon cream and key lime mix among darker tropical fruits like mango and pineapple, touching lightly at orange peel.Showing great tension from the abundant acidity, but balancing the superb concentration enough to create a weightless feel. This is light on botrytis yet loaded with exotic, ripe tropical fruit notes. An exciting young Sauternes to watch develop over the next 25 years.

Elegant nose with sweet white peach, strawberry and vanilla. Medium sweet on the palate with a lovely pure fruit and fine texture. This Barsac is super charming and well balanced. Very spicy on the finish showing wonderful botrytis intensity. Drink now or hold.

Jancis Robinson, April 2011

Very pale greenish gold. Very tense. Still embryonic at the moment. In fact the acidity is rather dominant. Really gripped in there for future development. RS 139 g/l, TA 4.05 g/l. 17.5 out of 20

Denis Dubourdieu's Barsac cru has an attractive bouquet with subtle notes of cooking apple, pear and lime-flower, all with very fine delineation. The palate displays good weight and a fine thread of acidity, lending tension and poise that leads to a taut finish, showing good botrytis levels for the vintage. With its trademark minerality in place, this Doisy-Daene comes highly recommended. -Neal Martin

Stephen Tanzer's IWC, August 2011

Bright yellow-gold. Enticing aromas of mango, guava, yellow peach, saffron, minerals and honey, complicated by high-toned botrytis. Rich, dense and almost oily, with intense ripe yellow fruit and honey flavors lifted by firm acidity. The finish boasts outstanding length and a bright lemony touch.

This has power in reserve, but relies more on its acidity, with juicy tangerine, clementine, pear and mango notes laced with a hint of green almond. The finish is long, pure and fresh. -J.M.

About Winery

The three Doisy vineyards of Barsac, Daene, Vedrines, and Dubroca, all stem from a single estate whose history is not well documented. The earliest records of Doisy come from the 18th century and they describe an estate south of Chateau Coutet owned by the Vedrines family. Though its early history is elusive, by the early 19th century the estate was recognized as one of the most prominent vineyards in Barsac. At some point in the 19th century, the single vineyard was divided by mandates of Napoleonic law. The largest portion of the vineyard stayed with the Vedrines family.  The second smaller portion was acquired by the Faux family which subsequently began the era Doisy-Dubroca, which was then acquired by the Daene family to produce Chateau Doisy Daene. The vineyards has switched hands a few times through the generations, but the Doisy Daene has consistently produced amazing wines that have captured the attention of wine connoisseurs the world over.

The Doisy Daene is very typical of the Barsac: a mix of red sand and clay with solid limestone bedrock and fossilized shellfish. The vines are largely vieilles vignes, although parts of the vineyard were intensively replanted in the 1940s and 1950s. The vineyard's 15.9 hectares are planted with extensive amounts of Semillon, Sauvignon Blanc, and Muscadelle.
