A well-layered and dense nose features notes of anise, earth, underbrush, violets and both red and blue pinot fruit aromas. There is very good volume to the large-scaled and dense yet quite supple flavors that possess excellent length. This is impeccably well-balanced and should require 15 years or so to arrive at its peak.

Christopher Massie, JJ Buckley, February 2012

Amazingly penetrating, sweet, powerful, perfumed aromatic profile is so fruited that the wood application takes a back seat. This is another wine offering a full cornucopia of red, black and blue Pinot fruit. Amazing texture on the palate as well. This coats the palate with a succulent texture, buckets of fruit and serious power. The packed fruit is all supported by pristine tannins that offer balance and and amazingly long, alluring finish. Another outstanding effort. 93+

The 2010 Clos de la Roche is fascinating to taste after the Mazis. The Clos de la Roche is all about power, structure and length, qualities it has in spades. There is huge depth and serious extract to the fruit, with equally big tannins to provide support. Layers of intense fruit are intermingled with persistent saline notes on the vibrant, finely chiseled finish. It will take years for the tannins to start melting away, but when they do the 2010 will be a dazzling wine. Actually, it already is. Anticipated maturity: 2030-2050. 94-96+ -Antonio Galloni

Stephen Tanzer's IWC, February 2012

Good bright, dark red. Complex nose mends raspberry, crushed rock, musky minerality, brown spices and a whiff of leather. Sappy, saline and pure, with rich, concentrated flavors of ripe black fruits and minerals. Finishes very long, with dusty tannins and good stony lift. Rousseau noted that he may begin using a bit of new oak for this cuvee in vintage 2012.
