Very mild reduction diminishes only slightly the interest of the red currant, violets, earth and exuberant spice notes. There is excellent volume to the very rich, round and pure medium-bodied flavors that possess highly sophisticated tannins that are already well integrated on the powerful, focused and stunningly long finish. This is generous to the point of opulence on the mid-palate yet there is again faultless balance that suggests that this should age effortlessly.

The 2010 Echezeaux comes across as cool, inward and rather shy. It is a bit compact, but it is the wine's energy that stands out the most. This is an Echezeaux that puts delicacy and finesse above some of the more overt qualities of the site and year. Dark red berries, flowers and licorice are supported by fabulous energy on the finish. This deceptively medium-bodied wine is flat-out stunning. Liger-Belair's parcels in Echezeaux are in Cruots (on the Vosne side, two thirds) and Champs Traversin (one third). The vines were planted in 1921 and 1935. Anticipated maturity: 2020-2040. -Antonio Galloni

Medium red. Knockout perfume of redcurrant, iron, dried flowers and clove oil. At once creamy and juicy, with terrific lift and inner-mouth tension to its fine-grained flavors of raspberry, strawberry, spices and flowers. Boasts a wonderful balance of sweetness, savoriness and sap, but seems to be shutting down today. Compellingly aromatic and electric on the long finish, with the tannins completely buffered by the wine's material. I would not be surprised if this wine merited an even higher score a decade down the road. 93+
