Loads of berry and chocolate with licorice and spices. Full and long. So much going on here. Gorgeous.

100% merlot. Grown in a range of limestone, gravel and clay soil on the highest parcel of the appellation. The nose offers mineral, squid ink, soy and black currant. With generous weight on the palate, there is more black currant with the addition of kirsch, seasoned olives, leather and camphor. Elegant finish. Drink 2015 to 2020.

2010: A consistent overachiever, Gigault Cuvee Viva's 2010 (100% Merlot fashioned under the guidance of Stephane Derenoncourt) was made from yields of 25 hectoliters per hectare and achieved 14% natural alcohol. Fat and plump, it offers abundant aromas of coffee beans, plum sauce and black cherry jam as well as a lush, hedonistic personality. Although not complex, it delivers lots of fruit, glycerin and thrills. Enjoy it over the next 3-4 years.
Wine Spectator, March 2011
Open and fleshy, with a friendly core of grape, plum and boysenberry fruit backed by just enough lightly firm toast for support. Should be another solid value for this estate. -J.M.
