Tasted at the offices of Ets. J-P Moueix, the La Grave-a-Pomerol has a more introverted bouquet - a little earthier and broody at the moment. But it lives up to its name with attractive warm gravel scents. The palate is medium-bodied with firm tannins on the entry. It is not a complex Pomerol, but it is very well balanced, quite penetrating on the front palate with a keen citric thread from start to finish. Very fine.

2010: One of the more impressive examples from this estate (normally a light, fruity but seductive styled wine), the 2010 possesses more weight and richness while not losing any of its seductive powers. Its deep ruby/purple color is followed by copious notes of kirsch, raspberries and loamy soil undertones. Medium to full-bodied, pure, soft and opulent, this impressive Pomerol will drink well young and last for a decade.

Almost too easy, with a velvety feel and lush blackberry, blueberry and plum fruit. Shows lovely spice shadings, with a dash of anise. Very flattering, but stays focused all the way through. Thoroughly delicious. 100 percent Merlot. Tasted non-blind. -J.M.
