Neil Mechanic, JJ Buckley, April 2011

76% merlot, 12% cabernet sauvignon and 12% cabernet franc. Vines are grown in a combination of clay and limestone that are positioned on the highest plateau of the property. Yields were a meager 22 hls/ha after sorting and selection. Aging will take place for 18 months in 80% new and 20% one-wine-old barrels. Alcohol reached 15.2%. The initial aromas of blackberry and cassis are followed by bittersweet chocolate, offering candied opulence on the nose. Silky on entry, the palate displays blackberry and charcoal notes. A departure from the traditional Bordeaux label design! Start enjoying 2015 to 2021. Claude Gros consults on this 2,000 case production.

Wine Spectator, March 2013

This starts with a caressing mocha and freshly brewed espresso crema note, but there's plenty of pleasantly austere charcoal and singed iron behind that, along with an ample core of dark plum, blackberry paste and warm plum reduction notes. The long, smoldering finish has excellent grip for the cellar. Best from 2015 through 2025. -JM
