about this wine:
The vines, of an average age of 30 years, are planted on soils of gravel and clay for the Merlot and silt where the Cabernet Franc shows its full character. The vineyard management and the vinification are carried out traditionally and with the same care as on the other Ets. Jean-Pierre MOUEIX properties.
Château Lafleur-Gazin generally has a deep colour, a vivid nose and a good texture backed up by a firm tannic structure. It definitely needs to be kept a few years for full enjoyment.

Fragrant yet delicate aromas of pure black cherry fruit emerge on the nose. Not weighty or thick, the medium-bodied palate cuts a sensuous profile that's a tad short. Textured, grainy tannins comprise the wine's dry finish, a touch rough compared with the classy fruit expression that starts the experience. A light and ethereal presence is the hallmark here, but wait until 2019-2021 for things to get resolved.

Pretty fruit, with chocolate and cherry aromas and flavors. Medium to full body, with fine tannins and fruity finish.

Lively dark crimson. Meaty nose. Lots of plush ripeness initially and then still a bit inky. This is serious Pomerol as opposed to hedonistic sort. Very dark and inky on the finish, with some slightly green astringency.

The property takes its name from its strategic location, next to Lafleur and Gazin and not from Petrus. Earth, chocolate, and spicy plum flavors are found in this medium bodied wine that ends with a fresh, blackberry, cocoa powder and cherry finish.

Tasted at the offices of Ets J-P Moueix, to be honest, I actually prefer the aromatics on the Lafleur-Gazin to the Belair-Monange tasted alongside. Here, I find the aromas more defined, showcasing some lovely pure dark cherry and plum-infused fruit that is neatly integrated with the oak. The palate is medium-bodied with a firm grip. This is quite a bold Lafleur-Gazin - quite masculine with a firm backbone and although it does not quite possess the persistency on the finish, I think this will mature very well.

2010: This low level Pomerol reveals medium to full body, a masculine structure, a dense ruby/purple color and sweet notes of black currants, crushed rocks, smoked game, herbs and earth. Medium to full-bodied with moderately high tannin, it will benefit from 2-4 years of cellaring and should keep for 12-15 years.

Juicy, with a muscular core of blackberry and fig. Lots of acidity is nicely buried on the smoke- and spice-filled finish, where a hint of plum skin lends an ever-so-slightly chewy edge. Tasted non-blind. -J.M.
