This is tight to the point of being almost completely inexpressive and only aggressive swirling liberates the barest of fresh and cool red berry scents. By contrast, there is outstanding intensity to the energetic, pure and focused medium weight plus flavors that enjoy an abundance of tannin-buffering dry extract. The racy, linear and very firm finish is classically austere but seriously persistent. Impressive.

The 2010 Clos de Vougeot shows terrific energy and persistence. There is an attractive juiciness to the mid-palate that balances the wine's structural elements. Floral notes add lift on the finish. The oak is a bit prominent, but I doubt that will be much of an issue by the time this is ready to drink, which isn't going to be anytime soon. Anticipated maturity: 2025-2040. -Antonio Galloni

Good dark red. Quite closed on the nose, hinting at black cherry and resiny, vanillin oak. Large-scaled, broad and extremely young, saturating the palate with very pure, primary flavors of black cherry, black raspberry and pomegranate. Way more expressive in the mouth than on the nose but still very much in need of cellaring. Finishes chewy and tactile, with serious but ripe tannins and excellent cut. 93+
