A very gently wooded nose frames a reticent if quite spicy nose of red currant, violets and plum aromas. The broad-shouldered flavors are impressively concentrated and loaded with dry extract that coats the palate and relegates the very firm tannic spine to the background on the hugely long finish. This is a big wine even by the already outsized standards of the appellation though it is not inelegant. In a word, marvelous.

How amazing to show a wine of this price at a big tasting! Rich and layered and really rather subtle. Much more subtle than the Charmes with a hint of lacquered Peking/Beijing duck about it. Very jolly. So nice to see a producer do something different yet still in the spirit of the vineyard. Vibrant finish. Respect. 19/20

The 2010 Richebourg possesses stunning depth and power. Despite the wine's considerable tannic heft, there is more than enough radiance and sheer brilliance in the fruit to balance the structural elements. A fabulous, energetic finish rounds things off in grand style. This is a stunning effort, but it will require patience, and lots of it. Anticipated maturity: 2030-2050. -Antonio Galloni

Bright full red. Wild, expressive aromas of raspberry, flinty minerality and pungent spices. Delivers outstanding power and palate-staining richness, with intense, sweet berry and dark cherry fruit complicated by saline, soil-driven minerality. This complex and complete, if youthfully strict, wine is the total package. With its noble, harmonious tannins and echoing fruits and minerals, this great grand cru saturates every square millimeter of the palate. 96+
