about this wine:
From the same hillside vineyards as `Ma Princesse' and `Ma Douce,' this unique cuvée is judiciously blended from a strictly limited number of selected barrels displaying truly outstanding features. It is the `Heart's Astonishment' or `Coup de Cour.'

Another big, rich wine, the 2010 Chardonnay Coup de Coeur packs serious density and weight. The 2010 combines richness of fruit with good underlying minerality. As good as this is, though, the overall impression is of heaviness. The Coup de Coeur is mostly fruit from Ritchie, with some barrels of Ma Douce and Ma Princesse. Anticipated maturity: 2014-2022. -Antonio Galloni

Selected from one of Morlet's best barrels of Sonoma Coast and Russian River Valley chardonnay. Bright straw color. The well-rounded nose leads with aromas of brown pear, French vanilla, lemon rind, and a hint of candied almond. The palate is richly textured, yet elegant, supported by precise flavors of red apple, lime, hazelnut, and a lingering salinity. A bit dense at the moment, the finish unravels with stunning length. Although perhaps a bit tightly wound now, this holds great promise after a spell in the cellar. 100 cases produced. Drink from 2014-2020.

(from Morlet's best barrels, a wine that he describes as "equivalent to" the Point Rouge chardonnay he made at Peter Michael, where Morlet was in charge of winemaking from 2001 through 2005): Complex nose melds candied lime, fresh hazelnut, exotic fruits and iodiney minerality. Uncompromisingly dry but dense chardonnay with flavors of apple and oyster shell and a chewy impression of extract. Outstanding incipient complexity here but the most closed and least fruity today of this trio of chardonnays. This dense, soil-driven wine finishes with a hint of phenolic character and saline and Poire William notes. For the cellar, and potentially better in five years than the Ma Douce and Ma Princesse.
