The early-release 2010 Cairanne (70% Grenache and 30% Syrah made from vines between 40 and 105 years of age) was aged in a combination of cement and neutral oak. It has a dense purple color (slightly more saturated than the 2009) and loads of primary yet intense blueberry, black raspberry and cherry fruit intermixed with lavender and licorice. Full-bodied, intense, fresh, with sweet tannin, this is another beauty that over-delivers. Drink it over the next 2-3 years.
Tracey Rose, JJ Buckley, September 2012
Saturated dark purple color. 70% grenache and 30% syrah. Brooding nose exhibits inky aromas of truffle and cigar box. A monster for this region with big and bold flavors of black plum, dark chocolate, and kirsch backed by a chewy mouthful of tannins and tangy cherry flavor that lifts and refreshes the palate. Decant for early drinking or give this a couple of years in bottle to allow the components to integrate more fully. Great stuff! Second vintage from Romain Roche, with Phillippe Cambie consulting.
