about this wine:
The vines of Secret de Cardinale are located on a 1.20 hectares plot bordering Château Fleur Cardinale. This wine is made in small quantities using the same growing and wine making techniques as those at Château Fleur Cardinale.
The vines are 35 years old, on average, and they grow in the clay-limestone soil of the Saint-Emilion appellation hillside. There is just one variety of vines for they are 100 % merlot, which is quite rare in Bordeaux.

Very pretty and balanced with blackberry and hints of vanilla. Full body, with well-integrated tannins and a juicy finish. Lots of delicious fruit. Excellent. A small vineyard right next to Fleur Cardinale and run by the same owner. Better in 2016.

From a tiny micro-estate owned by the Decosters ,who produce the brilliant, impressive, meticulously made wine at Fleur Cardinale, this is a 100% Merlot cuvee from a three-acre parcel of vines. It is rich, dense and full-bodied, exhibiting more tannin than the Fleur Cardinale, but has some purity, depth and richness. Interestingly, even though it is 100% Merlot, it came in at 14.5% natural alcohol, a degree less than their flagship estate. Drink it over the next 10-15 years. 89+ -Robert Parker

A dark, winey, extracted but focused version, with dense plum, boysenberry and loganberry fruit studded with graphite and ganache notes and driving through the long, velvety finish. Aims for power and pulls it off. Best from 2015 through 2030. -JM
