50% cabernet sauvignon, 40% merlot 10% petit verdot. Average yield is just 35 hl/ha. Harvest began on 24 September and finished 12 October, and maceration lasted between 18 and 22 days. Spring flowers, blackberry and cassis with underlying pulverized rock are present on the nose. Powerful black fruit dominates this unevolved yet precise wine, with a finish that lingers nicely. Tannins are broad shouldered and will take a few years to come around.

This has a lovely length to it. And very polished. Full and super long. I am impressed. 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Merlot and 10% Petit Verdot.

Produced from a blend of 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Merlot and 10% Petit Verdot, this likable, easy to understand wine offers blackberry and earth aromas, finishing with a mélange of sweet, red and dark berries.

The rejuvenated Tronquoy-Lalande suffered some hail damage in early May, hence the lower yields at 35hl/ha and the percentage of Cabernet Sauvignon in the blend (50%) complemented by 40% Merlot and 10% Petit Verdot. It has fine lift on the nose with a more red fruit profile than black: wild strawberry and a touch of pomegranate with some tertiary/scorched earth in the background. The palate is medium-bodied with a tannic entry, some fleshy Merlot complementing the cedar-infused Cabernet with some attractive peppery, animally notes towards the finish. A little rough around the edges at this early stage but I think this will meld together nicely by the time of bottling. Drink 2017-

A major sleeper of the vintage from the proprietors of Montrose, this wine is now overseen by the man who replaced Jean-Bernard Delmas, Herve Berland, who worked for many years at Mouton-Rothschild. With stunning richness, this blend of 50% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Merlot and the rest Petit Verdot exhibits lots of blueberry, boysenberry and mulberry notes, a full-bodied, voluptuously textured mouthfeel and terrific purity and length. The wine is very drinkable now and should continue to drink exceptionally well for at least another 12-15+ years.

A rich, chocolaty wine, with the structure right up front. Under the same ownership as Château Montrose, this is a wine that reveals all its attractions early with sweet blackberry fruit and powerful tannins. There is some freshness as well, giving fruitiness and acidity at the end. -R.V.

Rich and lush, particularly for the appellation, with gorgeous mouthfeel and alluring layers of warm plum sauce, dark fig, black currant and sweet tobacco. Good iron notes weave in quietly on the finish. -J.M.
