Geoffrey Binder, JJ Buckley, April 2011

50% merlot, 25% malbec, and 25% cabernet franc. 100% new oak. Planted to clay/limestone soil. Loads of black fruit, baking spice and anise jump from the glass on this modern and very clean nose. This palate is dense and rich, showing bright and high-toned black fruit and dark chocolate, framed by clove, cinnamon, and cardamom. Bright and fresh with excellent acids that flow into sturdy but rounded tannins, there is plenty of grip and a long, intense finish. Quite dynamic, yet another blockbuster from this estate.

Loads of new wood in this wine, that is a bit hard but lots of interesting fruit, with a blackberry and mineral character. Lots of Malbec in this. A little overdone but let's wait and see.

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, March 2013

The most limited cuvee is Bouscat's 2010 Les Portes de L'Am, which is a comparatively lightweight wine at only 15.3% alcohol. A blend of 50% Merlot and equal parts Malbec and Cabernet Franc (another rather unusual blend) coming from 37-year-old vines cropped at 18 hectoliters per hectare and aged in 600-liter demi-muids, this stunning wine is just sensational. Notes of camphor, graphite, blueberry liqueur, blackberries, espresso and chocolate jump from the glass of this dense purple-colored wine. Full-bodied, rich and intense, with some serious concentration and ripe, well-integrated tannin and wood, this is a magnificent beauty. Drink it over the next decade or more.
