Always one of my favorite Cotes de Castillons, this 35 acre vineyard is planted primarily on limestone soils. A blend of 70% Merlot, 25% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon, the 2010 was cropped at 24 hectoliters per hectare, and attained 14.5% natural alcohol. Abundant Rhone-like notes of black raspberry, licorice, garrigue and lavender emerge in the aromatics, but in the mouth, the wine is pure Bordeaux in its rich black currant and black raspberry-like fruit intermixed with subtle oak in the background. This impressively full, rich effort is capable of lasting 7-10 years.

Sweetly fruity, this is full of attractive acidity and juicy black currant fruit. It's a wine that is developing fast; with its delicious fruits, it will be ready to drink soon. -R.V.

Offers a friendly, caressing feel, with plum sauce and blackberry fruit, inlaid cocoa and apple wood notes and a well-focused finish. Not big, but defined and balanced. Drink now through 216. -JM
