2010 Craggy Range Pinot Noir Te Muna Road Vineyard
Pinot Noir: 750ml
$39.89
about this wine:
From the old, stony soils of the higher terrace on our Te Muna Road
Vineyard, this 33 hectare vineyard is planted with eight clones of Pinot
Noir in more than 40 different parcels.
From this melange of parcels, the grapes are hand picked and fermented
with indigenous yeasts before spending over a year in small French oak
barrels without racking to produce our Te Muna Road Pinot Noir - a dark
and brooding wine with a silky layered texture that provides interest
and complexity.

Bright and slightly edgy wine with flavours suggesting dark cherry, mineral, violets and star anise. Vibrant Pinot Noir that's rippling with energy. This is great food wine with good cellaring potential.
Michael Cooper, Buyer's Guide to New Zealand Wines, November 2011
The classy 2010 vintage of this Martinborough red was hand-harvested, fermented with indigenous yeasts and matured for over a year in French oak barriques. Deeply coloured, with a fragrant, spicy, smoky bouquet, it is sturdy, rich, savoury and complex, with densely packed cherry, plum, spice and nut flavours, ripe and finely textured. Still very youthful, it should be long-lived.--Michael Cooper 5 out of 5 stars

Good full, bright red. Smoky, slightly reduced aromas of red cherry, strawberry, raspberry and underbrush. Rich, pliant and broad but with good energy to the soil-driven flavors of sweet red fruits, rose petal and smoky underbrush. Finishes tactile, saline and long, with smooth tannins and subtle floral lift.

The rich cherry intensity of this wine carries spice along in its wake, bringing cedar and ancho-chile scents through its chocolate layers of tannins. It's tightly built, the flavors lasting on fruit, suited to several years of bottle age.

Craggy's Pinot style has been trending away from overt fruitiness and toward this sort of complex umamifest of meat, parsnip and mushroom, with just enough black cherry fruit to support all of these components. This 2010 has a firmly structured core surrounded by plush tannins and ample length on the finish. Drink now-2023.

Elegant and highly detailed, with plush, ripe red raspberry and cherry flavors that are fresh and juicy, joined by black tea, clove, sassafras and sage notes. Smooth and tasty, gaining momentum on the finish. Drink now through 2019. 1,200 cases imported.--Mary Ann Worobiec
