This is much more deeply pitched than usual with notes of earth and violets and while there are traces of red berry aromas, this hails more from the dark berry side of the fruit spectrum. There is excellent volume to the very rich and round middle weight plus flavors that possess a velvety mouth feel on the focused and impressively long finish. This also exhibits more depth of material than it usually does and this is one of the better Rousseau Charmes of recent years.

60% Mazoyeres. Exceedingly mineral on the attack aromatically; this epitomizes minerality. Behind that lurks the purest 100% black Pinot fruit. On the aromatic as well as flavor profile, there is a pronounced smoked bacon and wood smoke nuance that is quite appealing. This is absolutely palate staining; with sweet, mineral infused fruit. Fabulous, alluring and classically charming. Very long finish. Outstanding. 93+

Two-thirds Mazoyères. Transparent and cool. Unforced. Amazingly, charming sweet fruit and jewel-like freshness and transparency. So delicate. 18/20

The 2010 Charmes-Chambertin is deep, fleshy and totally seductive. It boasts striking inner perfume that serves as a recurring thread with which endless nuances of fruit are woven together. Finessed, silky tannins provide the backbone for all of the aromas and flavors to shine. I loved the integrity of the fruit in the Charmes. Rousseau's Charmes is roughly 60% Mazoyeres and 40% true Charmes. Anticipated maturity: 2020-2035. -Antonio Galloni

Complex nose melds dark raspberry, licorice, coffee, mocha and underbrush. At once sweet and energetic, with strong acidity nicely buffered by the wine's silky texture. Terroir-driven wine with good stuffing and substantial ripe tannins.
