Cory Gowan, JJ Buckley, February 2013

60% cabernet sauvignon and 40% merlot, planted over 40 hectares in gravelly clay subsoil. Aged 18 months in 50% new oak. Dark, inky ruby, this has a rich, powerfulbouquet of crushed rocks, wet stone, red fruit and damp earth - almost Rhone-esquein profile! Ripe and velvety on the palate, and although very tannic, it stays in balance. A terrific wine to lay down for a couple of years, this will be great for a decade-plus. Sylvain GarcinCathiard has owned Haut-Bergey since 1991, and has really raised the bar, giving it the same treatment as her great chateaux.

This is a wine that shows lots of chocolate, tobacco and currants. Full body, with velvety tannins and a long finish. All there.

Neal Martin's Wine Journal, April 2011

A blend of 65% and 70% Merlot, the Haut-Bergey 2010 has a very attractive bouquet, very pure with blackberry sorbet, raspberry and wild strawberry. Good definition. The palate is full-bodied with a svelte, silky smooth texture, good acidity, very harmonious with admirable purity. Caressing on the finish. I think that this has great potential.

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, March 2013

From Helene Garcin, this blend of 70% Cabernet Sauvignon and 30% Merlot displays classic tobacco leaf and smoky barbecue notes along with rich black currants and crushed rocks in a medium to full-bodied, seductive, attractively up-front style. Some Asian plum sauce is also noticeable in this complex, evolved and delicious wine, which can be drunk over the next 10-15 years. It is a sleeper of the vintage.

92 points,

Wine Spectator, January 2013

Offers lush fruit, with dark raspberry and boysenberry notes, good, graphite-laced structure and bright acidity weaving throughout. The long, smoldering finish features an appealing licorice snap and violet profile. Best from 2015 through 2025. -JM
