Opaque purple with a thin magenta rim. Focused and intense aromas of graphite spice and minerals leap out of the glass with an undercurrent of black olive and dark cherry emerging with air. Medium-full bodied with caressing palate texture, an admirable measure of restraint keeps everything in balance. Terrific acidity and a subtle structure of fine tannins and minerals on the backpalate, this avoids any jammy fruit dominance. The finish is slightly crisp, leaving a fresh sensation while indicating good cellaring potential over the next 5-10 years. This is a well-made, contemporary shiraz.

Deep, dense crimson-purple; this really is built for the long haul; cedary/spicy French oak is the first aroma encountered on the bouquet and is never far away, but there are waves of blackberry, plum and dark chocolate fruits, then round tannins to conclude.

Very deep purple-black in color, the 2010 "Director's Cut" Shiraz displays pronounced notes of warm blackberries, blueberries and crushed black cherries with nuances of pepper, chocolate, cloves, cumin seeds and cedar. With full bodied excellent concentration plus a good whack of oak, the generous fruit is well supported by medium to firm chewy tannins and refreshing acid, finishing long and cedary. It needs a little time for oak to marry and should drink best 2013 to 2020+. 90+

This 2010 release is at the top of its mark. It's thick with deep, dark flavour. Blackberries soaked in their own juices, asphalt, Chinese five-spice and creamy, toasty, cedary oak. There's a lot to sink your teeth into here. I'm rating it the same as I did last year's release but I'm reckoning it's a better wine; such is the fallibility of scores. This is an excellent choice for lovers of a Big Aussie Red. 92+
